Julien Bourgeois, co-founder of Automatic Trainer and a senior at Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies, recognized an opportunity to spread awareness about both his groundbreaking product and the value of STEM education. The United States Congressional App Challenge is an annual competition aimed at encouraging young people to explore the world of computer science and technology by developing their own apps. With his passion for technology and entrepreneurship, Julien knew that this was the perfect platform to showcase Automatic Trainer.

Armed with the knowledge he’d gained from building the product and a commitment to inspiring others, Julien applied for the challenge. His vision wasn’t just about promoting Automatic Trainer, but also about making a broader statement: the future of technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship lies in the hands of young people, especially those who embrace STEM learning.

In April 2023, Julien’s efforts were rewarded when Automatic Trainer was named the first-place winner in the Congressional App Challenge under Representative Steve Scalise. This achievement was a testament to both the product’s potential and Julien’s ability to pitch and showcase it effectively. Representative Scalise, recognizing the importance of encouraging young talent in technology, visited Haynes Academy to meet with Julien, his mentors, and his family and friends, who had supported him throughout the competition.

This recognition was more than just a trophy—it was a platform for Automatic Trainer to gain attention from a wider audience, including educators, tech enthusiasts, and potential investors. By winning the Congressional App Challenge, Automatic Trainer earned a spot on the national stage, helping to bring the product and its creators to the forefront of the conversation about the future of technology and innovation.

Behind this victory is not just Julien’s hard work, but also the mentorship and support he received throughout his entrepreneurial journey. As with their previous pitch competition at the University of New Orleans, the guidance of experienced mentors played a critical role in Julien’s success. Whether it was refining the app, preparing for the pitch, or navigating the business side of things, mentorship from the Beach Research Park and other industry experts helped Julien and his co-founder, Andrew Bradford, hone their skills and learn from every step of the process.

The Automatic Trainer journey continues to evolve, with each new accomplishment laying the foundation for greater success. The win at the Congressional App Challenge is a significant milestone, but it’s also just one chapter in a much larger story. With a passion for technology, a commitment to innovation, and a relentless drive for success, Julien and Automatic Trainer are positioned to make an even greater impact in the years to come.
